Here are some more updates of the Roxbury Project. We just added one coat of stain after we sanded and touched up the existing wood. Still a few more steps until it is completed so stay tuned! Wilford Avenue

Our most recent project: Wilford.

Freshly installed 6", 8", 10" White Oak with a Pallmann White Magic Oil Finish. We installed this beautiful wood over an existing hardwood floor. The entire process took a little less than a week and completely changed the look of this home. The homeowner went with a white finish look to make the space appear larger and more open.

White Oak hardwood flooring ranges from nearly white sapwood to the tans and browns of heartwood. The creamy, soft colors of natural white oak flooring make a space feel light and airy, calm and serene. In a formal setting, this translates to a look of refined elegance. In a modern setting, the look is casual and unfussy.

Tighter, straighter grain – The closely spaced growth rings of slower-growing white oak result in a tight, straight grain pattern that gives white oak hardwood flooring a satiny, smoother texture that’s more uniform and less busy than red oak. The surface is also distinguished by longer, darker lines, or “rays” that add to white oak’s attractiveness.

More durable – White oak rates a higher 1360 on the hardwood hardness scale over red oak’s 1290, making it slightly more durable. White oak hardwood flooring may be a better option for high traffic areas like entryways, hallways, and kitchens. Its increased durability means it can also better withstand the possibility of dents, dings, and impact.

Oak floors have always been in style, thanks in part to oak’s legendary beauty and durability. One of the most attractive traits of white oak hardwood flooring is that it’s as endearing as it is enduring. Consider the unique qualities of white oak hardwood flooring and see how it can help define the personality of your home.

Roxbury Project: Part 1

We are excited to share with you pictures from one of our most recent projects. We have started a new project called "Roxbury." This is a remodel of a very large home.

The existing wood is 2" x 0.5" Red and White Oak mix. Years of wear and tear have left the wood damaged and in rough condition. We are adding additional wood and we are going to re-sand and re-finish the existing hardwood and make it look like new. Many older homes have hardwood under carpet or tile. So if you're interested in installing hardwood in your home, lift up the carpet and check to see if there is hardwood already installed; sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised to find that your home already has wood and all you need to do is sand and finish the wood and effectively change the entire look and feel of your home.

We will post more pictures as the project develops.

Feel free to email or call if you have questions or would like an estimate. The Holidays are a great time to improve the aesthetics and look of your home!

5" Quartersawn White Oak

We've just finished another project. This time we decided to show you more of the process of staining and coating a floor. This floor is 5" quartersawn white oak with a custom Kona stain and 2 coats of Gloss Finish.

Quarter sawing is a method of sawing logs. The resulting boards are called "quartersawn." Quarter sawn boards have greater stability of form and size with less warping; and shrinkage is less troublesome. In some woods (such as white oak), the grain produces a decorative effect. Quarter sawn oak shows a prominent ray fleck. Quartersawn boards have two advantages: they are more resistant against warping with changes in moisture and, while shrinkage can occur, it is less troublesome.

White oak is an excellent choice for any hardwood flooring. Whether installed in a single room or throughout the house, oak flooring provides a warm, attractive appearance that can improve the value of a home. It is a versatile choice of flooring because it blends easily with most decors. In addition to oak’s superficial durability, it is very strong structurally. Oak flooring is dense and sturdy, making it an excellent shock absorber. The boards also resist loosening and splitting. White oak in particular is resistant to fungus, insect activity, moisture and standing water, making it a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms.

The homeowner requested a dark color to the flooring so we applied a Kona stain. We have included pictures of the staining process and we would be happy to explain why we do this and the benefits it allows. Also, we have included pictures of the railing surrounding the stairs, the process of adding the custom glaze (2 coats) to the floor and the finished product. The homeowner was very happy with the results and we were too!

Shane Herbert Real Estate

This floor is in the office of Shane Herbert Real Estate located in Park City, Utah.

We are happy to bring you some highlights of this beautiful floor of 1000 square feet of mixed 3 1/4" rustic red and white oak. The finish is hand rubbed natural tung oil allowing the beauty of the oak wood to be highlighted.

The look of red or white oak flooring is hard to beat, and one of the main reasons why people so often choose it as a building material. Oak is full of light, crisp tones and ranges in color from grayish-white to yellowish-brown. The grain is tight and fluid, adding distinction to the wood without being too flashy. It was a perfect addition to this office and really adds a beautiful attribute to any office or home.

808 Woodside

808 Woodside, Park City Utah

We are excited to feature this custom home in the heart of Park City. The home is located feet from a ski lift at Park City Mountain Resort. This multi-level home contains 2700 square feet of 5" Hickory flooring with an Ebony Rosewood Stain and a Magic Oil Finish. We also installed 44 custom treads and risers to all of the stairs (4 levels in total!).

Hickory wood is very hard, stiff, dense and shock resistant. There are woods that are stronger than hickory and woods that are harder, but the combination of strength, toughness, hardness, and stiffness found in hickory wood is not found in any other commercial wood, making Hickory an obvious choice for a durable ski home with added elegance and modern look. The application of the stain and finish allowed us to keep the beauty of the floor and protect it against the elements.

Main Street Condo

The Residece at 614 Main Street, Park City Utah

This amazing condo is located in the heart of Old Park City. The floor is 2200 square feet of 5" Madrone hardwood with an Ebony Rosewood stain and a Magic Oil Finish.

Here is a link to learn more about Magic Oil
The color of the Madrone wood tends to be a cream or pinkish brown color, but can also have dark red patches. Madrone is known for its burl veneer, which has many closely-packed clusters of knots and swirled grain. The grain tends to be straight, with a very fine and even texture. The application of the Ebony Rosewood stain and Magic Oil Finish allow the natural beauty of the wood to come through and radiate through the condo.
